The History of Tango
The task of the writer Juan Carlos Martini Real -coordinator of this collection- has been to systematize knowledge from different sectors: to bring together for an only time the most suitable professionals in the field, to specify a common route about the music that has become the skin of a biological species living in the southern part of a planet called Earth, at the banks of a still and pulpy river, where at night the sound of a bandoneon becomes a sticky and magical nostalgy, as in the tale of the Odyssey in which Odysseus and his companions are immobilized to the sound of a heavenly and fatal music.
The History of Tango has been possible thanks to the involvement of over 150 historians and experts on the subject: José Gobello, Luis A. Sierra, León Benarós, Sebastián Piana, Estela Dos Santos, Enrique Cadícamo, Horacio Ferrer, Oscar del Priore, Luis Alposta, Francisco García Jiménez, Roberto Selles, Jorge Göttling, Osvaldo Pellettieri, Oscar D. Zucchi, among many others, are some of the names that give proper dimention to the contributors to this work.
By way of relaunch of this magnificent collection, the new volumes pay attention to the current main characters of tango in its different expressions: music composition, lyrics, performance, dance. Written by themselves, and not by specialists, is the living memory and current testimony of those who have conserved, innovated and recreated this “world music” in the first decade of the new century and that, because of their conditions and age, shall continue it successfully in the coming years.
